West Ham United staff wowed by Jesse Lingard with new transfer on cards

Jesse Lingard is said to be impressing West Ham United coaching staff as he continues to train with the club, according to Sky Sports.

The sports news outlet shared via its Transfer Centre [17 August, 14:59] that Lingard, who has been training with the Hammers in a bid to keep his fitness up, is being monitored as the club considers offering him a short-term contract.

Lingard was released by Nottingham Forest upon the expiry of his contract and has since been training with Inter Miami, before being offered the opportunity at West Ham where he is known to have admirers after his loan spell.

A chance at redemption

Lingard’s spell at Nottingham Forest was nothing short of a disaster for the player and the club. He was offered a big contract, albeit short term, as a marquee signing following the club’s promotion from the Championship, but ended his stay without a single Premier League goal contribution.

He could now be offered a chance at redemption by West Ham, the club where he impressed by scoring nine goals and getting five assists in just 16 games during a loan spell in the 2020/21 season.

Understandably, Lingard has his admirers at the East London club who recognise his fantastic performances in David Moyes’ side and would like to see him replicate that form in a second spell. There are clear doubts though, hence the deliberation over a short-term deal.

The club believe that Lingard is capable of replicating the form he showed for them previously, but there is an element of doubt given his performances with Forest, and the fact that he rejected a move back to the Hammers in favour of Forest last summer.

In other West Ham news, the club are on the verge of signing a new defender.
