West Ham United sources share Aaron Wan-Bissaka update amid Manchester United exit links

Sources close to West Ham United suggest Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is unlikely to move to the London Stadium, according to Sean Whetstone.

Whetstone reported via the West Ham Football X account (26 July) that the Hammers will instead look at alternative targets this summer, with several factors already in place to stop this transfer from progressing.

Wan-Bissaka’s high wages partnered with the fact a move to East London would not be his priority mean that this will be a very difficult transfer for the Irons to get over the line ahead of the new season.

Reports had suggested Julen Lopetegui’s side would turn to the Red Devils defender after their deal for Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui collapsed after terms couldn’t be agreed with his agent [Florian Plettenberg, 26 July].

Will Aaron Wan-Bissaka exit Manchester United amid West Ham transfer speculation?

West Ham’s search for a new right-back doesn’t appear to be going quite as well as most supporters would have hoped and it is becoming increasingly likely Vladimir Coufal will be starting the first game of the season.

On paper, Wan-Bissaka would be the perfect fit for the Irons as his defensive first style of play matches Lopetegui’s playing style and he would have the creative players ahead of him so that he wouldn’t be relied upon in possession.

However, the Hammers will not want to be held to ransom when it comes to wages. If the defender’s demands are as huge as has been reported, West Ham can’t disrupt their entire structure just for one signing.

Partner that with the fact it doesn’t really appear as though the Manchester United man is in a rush to join the ranks at the London Stadium and it feels like it would be best for all parties if this deal didn’t happen.

Hopefully, Lopetegui and Tim Steidten will be able to get an alternative target through the door sooner rather than later so they’re not short of options once the season gets underway.
