West Ham United ‘soften’ stance over Gianluca Scamacca exit, Euro club keen on loan move

West Ham have opened the door for Gianluca Scamacca to exit the club this summer as Roma eye a loan deal for the forward, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

The Sportitalia journalist reported that the Hammers are “softening” their stance on allowing the Italy international to leave the London Stadium, with the Serie A giants looking to sign the 24-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy him.

Pedulla said Roma are keeping the contact with West Ham alive because they “have to beat all possible roads in order to get to an attacker” as they look to replace the sidelined Tammy Abraham.

Twist

This latest update marks quite a twist in the ongoing saga as it had looked like West Ham were doing all they could to keep hold of the striker this summer.

He has played in all three of the Hammers’ opening pre-season games and scored twice in those matches – most recently grabbing the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over arch-rivals Tottenham in Australia on 18 July.

David Moyes had seemed keen to give Scamacca another chance in the Premier League after he struggled to have an impact in his opening season at the club despite signing for £35million from Sassuolo.

West Ham

If the club are softening their stance on allowing him to leave, then it would appear as though they have got another striker lined up to replace him, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings the only other senior options.

Perhaps the performances of Divin Mubama have also persuaded the West Ham hierarchy in allowing the Italian to move on, with Moyes and co believing he could play a more significant role in the first team in the upcoming season.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are reportedly eyeing a Brazilian international forward.
