West Ham United: Sky Sports journalist shares update as Edu makes Arsenal transfer decision on Emile Smith Rowe

Edu Gaspar has made it clear he wants Emile Smith Rowe to stay at Arsenal amid interest from West Ham in signing him, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on Saturday (20 January) that the Gunners’ sporting director has informed the Hammers of his decision on the England international.

It comes after the Irons were keen to land a loan deal for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder as they look to add to their squad in the January transfer window.

Move on

It sounds as though there isn’t going to be any possibility of West Ham bringing in Smith Rowe this month as Arsenal are keen to keep hold of him.

The news will have come as a blow to the Hammers’ transfer plans as they are looking to add at least one attacking player this month.

The Englishman was probably seen as an improvement on their current options to complement Lucas Paqueta, with Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals struggling to find any form this season.

It is potentially a transfer to keep an eye on in the future, though, as he’s only made two starts during this campaign and could become frustrated down the line if he doesn’t force his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

But for now, it’s time for us to move on to other potential targets as there is no doubt that David Moyes needs some more options for the second half of the season.
