West Ham United set to reach agreement over Wesley transfer as new bid tabled
West Ham United are back in the hunt to sign Wesley from Corinthians with an increased bid set to be tabled to sign him, according to GOAL Brazil.
The Brazilian side are positive about reaching an agreement with the Hammers, despite the sides being apart in terms of the initial bid.
Tim Steidten has offered £12.6million already, it is claimed, but Corinthians president Augusto Melo wants at least £25.3m for the 19-year-old.
West Ham are “unlikely” to spend that much on the versatile forward, but they may exceed £16m in their newest offer and that is likely to still be enough.
There is an expectation from both parties that an agreement can be reached “during the current transfer window”.
West Ham move closer to Wesley signing
Steidten has an obsession ahead of the summer transfer window of signing young Brazilian talent to bolster Julen Lopetegui’s squad.
This has been exhibited by the well-documented interest in the likes of Fabricio Bruno and Luis Guilherme in recent weeks.
Wesley is an option who can play as a central striker or on either flank, and the latter is probably where he would operate for the Hammers.
Although he may do well as a striker in the Brazilian Serie A with two goals in just five starts so far this season [FotMob], he could struggle physically in the Premier League.
This would all depend on how Lopetegui sets up his team as he could prove to be a useful second striker alongside a more physical option like Michail Antonio.
The Hammers are looking to spend a lot of money and invest a lot of time in these Brazilian “wonderkids” which is certainly a risk, but this is clearly a talent the Hammers are eager to snap up.
