West Ham United set to miss out on free agent signing of Dan-Axel Zagadou – Fabrizio Romano
Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to sign a contract with Bundesliga club Stuttgart, with West Ham never close to signing him according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hammers had been linked with a move for the French defender, who has been without a club since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract in the summer.
Despite reports of a four-year deal on the table from West Ham, the player is set to undergo a medical with Stuttgart according to Romano with an agreement “imminent” for him to stay in Germany’s top flight.
“Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to sign with Stuttgart on free transfer — he will undergo medical tests next week, the agreement is imminent,” he said.
“Zagadou was never close to joining West Ham despite rumours — he’s prepared to stay in Bundesliga.”
No shock
It’s absolutely not a shock that West Ham aren’t actually trying to sign Zagadou, because the club have already got a lot of centre backs at the club.
Craig Dawson recently returned to the team and got a goal in Europe, Thilo Kehrer and Kurt Zouma have established a good partnership at the back and Angelo Ogbonna is still building back his fitness.
Nayef Aguerd is also at the club, although he is injured, but with Dawson staying at the club after the transfer window closed there was always just a very slim chance of the club returning to the market for a defender.
Had he still been available in the January transfer window then maybe Moyes would have made a move, but until then it was never going to be worth it.
At least now the reports and rumours will stop because he’s signed somewhere else, and hopefully the current batch of defenders can start focusing on their jobs instead of potentially losing their place in the side.
