West Ham United set for windfall as Pierre Ekwah eyed for Premier League transfer

West Ham could be set for a cash windfall in the January transfer window with Pierre Ekwah set for a Premier League move, according to TEAMtalk.

Ekwah left the Hammers in January 2023 and joined Sunderland on a permanent deal, and has shone as the Black Cats are pushing for promotion back to the top flight.

But Crystal Palace, Fulham and Nottingham Forest are all interested in bringing him to the Premier League earlier, with West Ham holding a “sizeable sell-on fee” meaning they would earn some cash fom any deal that went through.

“Sunderland starlet Pierre Ekwah could be set for a quick return to the Premier League with Fulham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest showing interest, TEAMtalk can reveal,” they wrote.

“It is believed Ekwah, who has represented France at youth level, moved for a nominal fee but West Ham would be due a sizeable sell-on fee.”

Every little helps

West Ham have spent quite a lot of money in recent transfer windows, and most people seem to believe that any spending in January will need to be topped up by sales.

Obviously though this would be a fantastic little top up of cash that would have been unexpected for most, which could be the difference between getting a deal done or not.

It’s always a good idea to get some kind of sell-on fee in any deal for young players because it’s clear that we believe in a lot of the talent we have, but our levels are just too high and it’s hard for them to all break through.

That makes it harder to sell them on so selling for a lesser fee and ensuring we keep some value makes sense, and it’s a good thing we did as we’re now benefitting from it.

It’s a deal to keep an eye on even though it’s not really got anything to do with us, and the club will be happy about the boost we could receive to the bank balance.
