West Ham United senior source issues update on Jhon Arias transfer quest
West Ham have not revived their interest in securing a potential transfer for Colombia and Fluminense winger Jhon Arias, according to westhamfootball.
The news outlet reported on 30 October that a senior source at the club claims that the Hammers have enough wingers in their side.
The Irons secured the services of Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United and brought in Carlos Soler on loan from PSG in the summer and have Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta who have all played in wide attacking positions this season.
They wrote on X: “Reports that West Ham have revived a potential transfer deal for Fluminense winger Jhon Arias are wide of the mark.
“A senior club source denied the report by stating ‘We have enough wingers’.”
West Ham must not waste their money signing another winger
While Arias may have won the Bronze Ball award at the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, he’s not really a player who would be an upgrade on the current options in the side.
Investing in the 27-year-old, despite his accolades, might not represent a significant upgrade but rather an unnecessary expense, especially given the club’s financial considerations.
Furthermore, their approach to the market indicates a focus on squad balance and avoiding redundancy, which is crucial for maintaining competitive depth without overstocking in one area, potentially leading to squad disharmony or underutilised talents.
Signing a left-back or potentially a big-name midfielder or striker would be higher up on Julen Lopetegui’s priority list than another winger.
He was also backed extensively in the summer and the onus is now on him to get the best of the talent at his disposal.
Hopefully, the win against Manchester United can kick-start a run of good performances and results which sees the Irons climbing up the Premier League table.
