West Ham United are already a couple of steps behind their Championship competition for next season.

Nuno Espirito Santo may have confirmed that he is sticking at the London Stadium, but that's as good as it's got so far.

Despite significant losses last season before relegation, there still haven't been any early sales agreed.

That leaves the Hammers behind, with Wolves already strengthening their promotion push ahead of others.

Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen continue to be linked with exits, too, so it's only going to get worse before it gets better.

There has been some incoming movement now, though, with Jett Murphy signing on the dotted line.

Who is Jett Murphy?

It has been revealed that the young attacker has signed for the Irons from Chelmsford City.

They currently play in the sixth-tier of English football, so expectations are low for the 18-year-old.

Talent Hunter has reported on Instagram that Murphy completed a successful trial with West Ham, before now officially signing.

It is said that he'll join the under-21s initially.

Murphy is said to be a lifelong supporter of West Ham, featuring in two under-18 games on trial.

The forward delivered a couple of goals and one assist in a game against Norwich, and has been rewarded with a contract.

West Ham transfer strategy is clear

This isn't the first signing that the Hammers have made this summer.

Signing on loan back in January, Keiber Lamadrid has done enough to earn himself a permanent move, somehow.

Now, with Murphy following him, West Ham are adding to their already very succesful academy at Rush Green.

Now, it has to be about adding to the senior squad.

But, it's hard to do that when sales that are expected aren't happening and nobody knows what the squad will look like once the Championship gets underway.

West Ham will have their targets, but let's say someone unexpected sticks around, and that changes everything.

For now, it's good to see the likes of Murphy adding to the already impressive academy ranks.
