West Ham United seal Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United as cut-price details emerge
Crysencio Summerville will now sign a five-year West Ham contract to move from Leeds United after the deal was fully sealed, Florian Plettenberg reports.
According to the Sky Sports German journalist via X on 3 August the Dutchman is joining the Irons on a deal worth a maximum of just £25million from Elland Road.
He will be the first of three expected through the doors imminently with medicals booked the same day for Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug and free agent midfielder Guido Rodriguez.
It had been reported by talkSPORT on 30 July that the Hammers were on the brink of pulling out of the Summerville pursuit thanks to the Whites’ insistence on holding out for £40m before a major turnaround.
Tim Steidten works magic to land discount West Ham ace
The Championship’s Player of the Season from last term will be expected to add similar dynamism on the opposite flank as former EFL star Jarrod Bowen now does with regularity for the Irons.
His medical is already complete [Dharmesh Sheth, 2 August] as part of an incredible series of business conducted by Tim Steidten to get Fullkrug and Rodriguez lined up in addition.
Leeds have already sold Archie Gray to Tottenham for big money so it was thought they would insist on a full fee for Summerville but somehow they have settled for almost half of what they were said to be asking for.
But Julen Lopetegui and Irons fans won’t be complaining when they now have a huge element of the required transfer business on the way in.
Summerville’s 21 goals in all competitions last term looked like they were going to fire Daniel Farke’s side to automatic promotion, but stunning campaigns from Leicester and Ipswich consigned Leeds to the play offs where they fell in the final to Southampton.
West Ham have now taken full advantage to fill out the wide attacking areas which had been left looking bare after the exits of Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma, with Luis Guilherme already secured.
The forgotten Maxwel Cornet could leave yet [The Athletic, 6 June], but with Fullkrug inbound it should help prevent Bowen from being required up front and give Lopetegui an impressive attacking unit.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are still lining up a fourth deal to add to the signing frenzy.
