West Ham United scouts check in on Azeem Abdulai amid Swansea City exit update
West Ham United scouts have been making regular checks on Swansea City midfielder Azeem Abdulai, according to TEAMtalk.
The outlet reported on its website on Friday (6 September) that several Premier League clubs including the Hammers and Bournemouth are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old who is viewed as a “star in the making”.
Luke Williams’ side are aware of the top-flight interest in the midfielder, whose contract with the Championship club expires in the summer of 2026, and are eager to keep him in South Wales.
Abdulai has scored twice in three appearances for the Swans in all competitions this season having broken into the first team last season as he made seven league appearances in the Championship.
Are West Ham close to any new transfers at the London Stadium?
While Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten massively revamped the playing squad in the former Real Madrid boss’ first summer in charge at the London Stadium, the majority of their business involved signing players from abroad.
Although the likes of Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka arrived from within the Premier League, there has almost been a reluctance at West Ham over the last few years to dip into the Championship during the transfer window.
While some players in the second tier simply aren’t cut out to play at the top level, there are plenty of hidden gems just waiting for their opportunity and for all the Hammers know, Abdulai could be exactly that.
The 21-year-old doesn’t have loads of first-team experience, but he has shown in the early stages of the season that he can be a real driving force and carry a genuine goal that even when introduced from the bench.

While he probably isn’t yet at the level to come in and make an immediate impact on Lopetegui’s first-team squad, he has plenty of time to show Irons scouts what he’s made of between now and the January window.
Regardless of whether or not this deal happens, it is positive to see that the Hammers recruitment team are already turning their attention to the next transfer window.
