West Ham United: Said Benrahma now wants ‘huge’ payoff to complete last-gasp January transfer to Lyon

Said Benrhama now wants a “huge” payoff to complete his move from West Ham to Lyon in the January transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers insider reported on its website on Wednesday (31 January) that a source has revealed that the deal for the Algerian isn’t done yet.

It added that the 28-year-old winger is refusing to leave the London Stadium for the Ligue 1 club unless he is “paid millions” by the Irons after the two clubs have agreed a loan deal, which includes a £15million obligation-to-buy clause.

Concerning

This is a concerning development in West Ham’s bid to try and offload Benrahma this month after already agreeing a deal with Lyon.

The winger is believed to be locked in talks with the French side over a potential move, but it sounds as though those negotiations aren’t going well.

The fact he wants a payoff from the Hammers potentially suggests they aren’t offering him as much as he’s currently earning in East London, with the player believing he’s owed more cash given that he still has two years left on his deal.

West Ham

The last thing the Irons will want is an underperforming player to stick around purely for the money, particularly when David Moyes looks to have made it clear he isn’t part of his plans.

It’s always disappointing when things end up this way, but if Benrahma really cares about playing football and getting his career back on track, then he will be reasonable with his expectations.
