West Ham United receive transfer decision on Luis Guilherme after Tim Steidten talks
Brazilian club Palmeiras have told West Ham United’s technical director Tim Steidten that midfielder Luis Guilherme is not for sale, according to Vene Casagrande.
The Brazilian journalist posted on his X account that as part of the Hammers’ pursuit of Flamengo centre-back Fabricio Bruno, Steidten has unsuccessfully spoken with Palmeiras over Guilherme’s availability.
The Irons and fellow London side Brentford have been reported to be tracking the progress of the 18-year-old Brazil Under-20 midfielder, but it appears the Sao Paulo club won’t be listening to bids from any club.
Steidten’s trip to Brazil was said to be originally to close deals for Bruno and Wesley Gassova, another Hammers target, but has yet to have any success, with these discussions his latest setback.
Hammers having little success in South America so far
West Ham’s technical director Steidten has only been in Brazil for a matter of hours, but the latest developments suggest that his South American excursion is not going to plan.
Last week, Fabricio Bruno’s signing appeared to be all-but certain, but talks have stalled over wage demands for the Brazilian international and Steidten is yet to resolve that issue.
The pursuit of Corinthians winger Wesley is yet to hit any stumbling blocks, but the Irons are far from the only club keen on bringing the 19-year-old to Europe and thus a bidding war seems inevitable.
Both the Hammers and Brentford being knocked back for Luis Guilherme implies that unless they receive an offer too good to turn down, Palmeiras are holding their ground, continuing a frustrating start to the summer window for Steidten.
New head coach Julen Lopetegui’s arrival has seen a whole host of transfer targets linked, but West Ham may be forced to look closer to home for new signings if Steidten returns from Brazil empty-handed.
In other West Ham news, a senior Irons man wants out and another leader in the squad has been put up for sale.
