Sky Sports journalist: Thilo Kehrer exit from West Ham United ‘almost a done deal’ as financial details emerge
Thilo Kehrer is on the verge of completing a move to Monaco and could land West Ham an initial £430,000 (€500k) loan payment, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany reporter provided the update on his personal Twitter page on Thursday (4 January), while adding that the deal includes an obligation to buy of around £9.3m (€11.5m).
Kehrer’s move to the Ligue 1 side could go through as early as Thursday (4 January) after talks ramped up over the past couple of days.
Plettenberg tweeted: ” If nothing goes wrong, the 27 y/o could travel to Monaco today to finalize the deal.
“Excl. detail: The six-months-loan deal includes an obligation to buy of around €11.5m! The conversion to the obligation to buy is tied to easily achievable parameters / #WHUFC
“Understand that first contracts were exchanged in the last 1-2 days! Loan fee: €500k.”
Money recouped
News of Kehrer being close to joining Monaco is hardly a surprise given the updates over the past few days, but it is good to see West Ham are not letting him leave on the cheap.
The Germany international will help bring in just short of £10m, which is the same amount he joined for from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2022 [Sky Sports].
Quite why things have not worked out for Kehrer at London Stadium is a different matter, but at least the club have managed to break even with this deal.

Having been a fairly regular starter under David Moyes last season, the 27-year-old has yet to score a Premier League game this season, with all four appearances coming from the subs’ bench.
Kehrer showed promise at PSG, and indeed last season, but he is now set to return to the French top flight with Monaco.
It looks like a good move for the defender on the face of it, with Monaco third in Ligue 1, and West Ham can use the funds to bring in a player elsewhere.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers must surely now abandon their pursuit of a certain player after an update this week.
