West Ham United really want to sign Ian Maatsen as Chelsea contract decision made after offer

West Ham want to sign Ian Maatsen after he has rejected a contract offer at Chelsea, according to Felix Johnston.

The Chelsea academy expert, who recently broke the exclusive news that Lewis Hall had signed a new contract with the Blues, tweeted on 16 August that the Dutch left-back has turned down the first verbal deal offered to him.

He added that the West London club aren’t currently panicking because the situation has been described as an “open negotiation”, but that the Hammers are “very interested” in signing the 21-year-old.

Take advantage

With the news that Maatsen has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Chelsea, that means it’s time for West Ham to take advantage of that situation.

The left-back, who can also play in midfield, is probably going to be at best second choice on the left-hand side of the Blues’ defence this season.

That means he could be open to a switch to East London if more playing time is on the table and the club are willing to hand him better terms than he’s currently being offered at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham

Maatsen is highly thought of at Chelsea after he’s undertaken a couple of successful loans in the past two seasons, with his latest spell coming in Burnley’s promotion-winning campaign, where he scored four goals and laid on six assists in 42 appearances.

There is a possibility that he could be tempted to make the move to the London Stadium, so it’s time for us to firm up that interest with an offer for the player.
