West Ham United ready to table bid to sign Wesley after Tim Steidten scouting mission

West Ham are set to make an offer to Corinthians to sign their young winger Wesley, according to UOL in Brazil.

The outlet reported via their website on 23 April that Tim Steidten was in attendance to watch the 19-year-old in person during their goalless draw with Atletico-MG on 14 April and is now preparing to bid for him.

Wesley, who operates primarily on the left wing, reportedly has a contract which runs until 2027 at Corinthians, who own 70% of the teenager’s rights, with the other 30% held by his representatives.

The Irons are said to be planning to offer 82.6million Brazilian real [£12.9m], although the report claims it is for 80% of the player’s rights.

West Ham return to Corinthians after Yuri Alberto interest

The Hammers need help in the wide areas after letting both Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma leave in January with nobody coming in.

Steidten has connections to Corinthians having also flown out last summer in a bid to sign striker Yuri Alberto as part of his unsuccessful attempt to replace Gianluca Scamacca.

The past two transfer windows have left West Ham light in forward areas so it would be no surprise to see multiple new arrivals in the summer if the German can have more success than he managed in the previous window.

Vitoria de Guimaraes’ wide man Jota Silva is also believed to be of interest heading into the upcoming market and could get a significant discount on that deal.

But all upcoming moves in the transfer window are bound to hinge heavily on what happens at manager, as David Moyes has shown he will largely ignore the likes of Maxwel Cornet if he isn’t convinced.

The Scot appears set to depart once his contract expires although that is still not guaranteed so West Ham need to make important decisions in that area as early as possible to avoid the situation negatively affecting transfer business.

In other West Ham news, David Sullivan is yet to be impressed by one of the frontrunners to replace Moyes.
