West Ham United ready new Max Kilman bid as transfer update emerges

West Ham had an offer for Wolves defender Max Kilman rejected on Saturday morning (22 June), according to Jack Rosser.

The Sun journalist reported via his personal X account [22 June] that the Hammers offered a deal worth £30million with add-ons, proposing to spread that fee across six seasons.

It is understood that the club are preparing another bid for the 27-year-old centre-back already, but are reluctant to go over the £35million mark this summer.

Julen Lopetegui will be desperate to add defensive reinforcements to his squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, having already missed out on Flamengo’s Fabricio Bruno.

Without Angelo Ogbonna anymore, and Nayef Aguerd being linked with a move away from the London Stadium, the Spaniard could be left with just Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos next season.

The duo were heavily criticised for their defending throughout last season as the Hammers only conceded fewer goals than Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United.

Considering Lopetegui’s previous experience with Kilman, having spent time together at Molineux Stadium, it seems like a no-brainer transfer decision for the new manager.

However, Wolves are, of course, reluctant to see their captain leave this summer so will be wanting a much higher fee than it seems West Ham are open to offering.

The 27-year-old has become a regular figure at Molineux since making the switch from Maidenhead United in 2018, quickly earning the role of club captain.

Lopetegui will be looking for a new leader ahead of next season, and with over 151 first-team appearances for Wolves, Kilman could be a sensible transfer this summer.

The centre-back is known for his no-nonsense defending, though he is capable with the ball at his feet if required to play possession-based football, which could be an option at the London Stadium next season.
