West Ham United ready move for £25m Chelsea ace if Diego Carlos transfer fails
West Ham United could make a move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah if the club fail in their attempts to sign Aston Villa centre-back Diego Carlos, according to The Telegraph.
Writing on their website [8 August], the newspaper reported that Fulham are leading West Ham in the race for Carlos which could prompt the Hammers to rival Crystal Palace for Chalobah.
A move for the 25-year-old will most likely be a loan offer with an obligation or option to buy him permanently next summer.
Chelsea would prefer a permanent move for Chalobah after excluding him from the club’s pre-season tour of the USA and value the defender at £25million.
Will West Ham United sign Trevoh Chalobah?
The transfer window is in full swing as we approach the final weeks of the summer and no Premier League side has been more active than West Ham.
The Irons signed Wes Foderingham, Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman early in the window and have recently accelerated their plans by confirming the signings of Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez in the past week.
Tim Steidten and David Sullivan have backed Julen Lopetegui this summer, and the spending is expected to continue with negotiations underway with Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka [TEAMtalk, 8 August] and the Irons now targeting another centre-back.

Chalobah has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge through no fault of his own. He has proven capable of playing in the Premier League since his breakout campaign in the 2021/22 season.
Todd Boehly is continuing his ludicrous spending this summer and the Cobham graduates are paying the price for their owner treating the transfer window like a Football Manager simulation.
But their loss stands to be the Hammers’ gain and they could swoop on a player entering his prime years, and someone who already has years of Premier League experience under his belt.
The player will be desperate to leave the circus that has become Stamford Bridge and play regular first-team football in his home city of London.
West Ham should end their pursuit of Carlos regardless of the player’s decision and go all in on Chalobah. It is a low-risk deal with the potential of high reward.
