West Ham United ready James McAtee transfer as Manchester City price emerges
West Ham United want to sign Manchester City playmaker James McAtee, potentially in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.
The newspaper reports [16 November] that the Hammers are looking at the 22-year-old as a replacement for Lucas Paqueta as they fear losing the Brazil international.
The 27-year-old is attracting interest from Botafogo, with McAtee eyed as the successor as the suggested price tag of £20million wouldn’t be a problem for the club.
James McAtee to join West Ham United?
McAtee has made his way through the youth ranks at City, who have produced players like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer in recent years.
The 22-year-old has been gradually introduced into the senior squad by Pep Guardiola over the years, with the midfielder making six appearances in all competitions for the Cityzens, scoring one goal.
While the Englishman hasn’t done much in the Premier League so far, judging him on the limited game time he has been given would be unfair, and Palmer’s rise since leaving for Chelsea should be taken as an example.
Paqueta has struggled at West Ham this season, and the Brazilian has found it challenging ever since being charged by the FA for allegedly breaching betting rules earlier this year.

Tim Steidten flew to South America to convince the 27-year-old to stay in the summer after an offer from Flamengo [The Athletic, 16 November], showcasing the faith the Hammers’ technical director has in him.
If the Brazilian were to depart, the Irons would arguably need to find someone to take his spot, and McAtee’s potential makes him an excellent option for them.
In other West Ham news, Guido Rodriguez could also be on his way out of the club as another midfielder is being eyed.
