West Ham United ready another bid to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire

West Ham could make a second bid to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on page 67 of its print edition (3 August) that the Hammers are weighing up another offer for the 30-year-old.

David Moyes’ side saw a £20million bid for the England international knocked back by the Red Devils recently, with the offer not matching the Manchester club’s valuation of the player (BBC Sport, 29 July).

Maguire, whose current contract with United runs until 2025, is a key target for Moyes as the West Ham boss continues his hunt for a first summer signing.

Mess

Recruitment at the London Stadium this summer has been an absolute mess and the Hammers could be set to pay the price if they are not careful.

No new signings have been made by the East London club and their very long and public Declan Rice transfer saga won’t be helping their cause, with teams knowing they have money to spend after selling their captain for £100million.

West Ham

A lot of money was invested by Manchester United into Maguire when they signed him and they understandably won’t be willing to let him go on the cheap. The player himself might also have to take a pay cut with West Ham unlikely to match his current wages.

The deal, therefore, looks a tricky one to complete but that doesn’t change the fact that Moyes’ men desperately need defensive reinforcements and should perhaps be looking elsewhere for younger, less complicated options.

Although if they are as keen on Maguire as reported, then it is time to pay up.

In other West Ham news, an outgoing from the London Stadium is expected very soon.
