West Ham United: Rav van den Berg transfer update emerges with scouting done
West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford all want to sign Middlesbrough defender Rav van den Berg, according to HITC.
The news outlet reported on 6 March that the Hammers have even sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old recently.
The Dutch centre-back was even handed the captain’s armband by manager Michael Carrick.
Upgrade on current West Ham United defenders?
Signing van den Berg, despite Premier League interest, wouldn’t be a wise move for the Irons.
While the young defender has attracted attention and his value may be inflated due to the interest, he isn’t an upgrade over the current defenders at the London Stadium.
Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos may have underperformed, but they still offer more experience and reliability compared to the teenager.
Investing in the 19-year-old could be seen as a gamble with uncertain returns, especially considering West Ham’s defensive needs.
It would be more prudent for them to focus on strengthening their defence with players who have proven themselves in the Premier League or other top leagues rather than taking a risk on a young talent who may not immediately improve their squad.

The Hammers appear to have started their summer planning already but it remains to be seen who the manager is.
