West Ham United put together bid to sign Udinese star Lazar Samardzic as approach made
West Ham United are going head-to-head with Brighton to sign Lazar Samardzic in the summer transfer window, according to Mondo Udinese.
The Italian outlet (15 May) has suggested that Udinese aren’t surprised by the interest given the quality of his performances this season and that West Ham – as well as three other clubs – have approached them with enquiries ahead of the summer.
Interest has come in from Serie A teams Napoli and Juventus while the Hammers and Brighton are the Premier League sides linked.
All four teams looking into securing Samardzic’s signature will have to “put together the right offer” during the summer.
Should West Ham sign Lazar Samardzic?
Samardzic, 22, is a central midfielder who is also comfortable pushing further forward and operating as a number ten where needed.
Like James Ward-Prowse, the Serbian is an asset when taking set pieces whether that be shooting from range or putting a cross in.
He likes to get the ball at his feet, drive forward and take a shot of his own or put the ball on a plate for his teammates. This has seen him score five and assist two across 26 starts in Serie A for Udinese [FotMob].
Despite being a player who looks to get forward he isn’t afraid to get stuck in and track back to help out his teammates defensively.

Winning tackles and aerial duels aren’t his greatest asset but that doesn’t stop him trying and is certainly an area he could improve in.
It is unclear whether the Hammers truly need a player like Samardzic but if someone like Lucas Paqueta leaves this summer, he could be useful.
