West Ham United play waiting game on Todibo as fee agreed – Sky Sports

West Ham United are playing the waiting game over their pursuit of Jean-Clair Todibo as uncertainty over his future continues, according to Sky Sports.

The report (22 July) indicates that the player’s preference is still Italian giants Juventus, with both clubs being deep in talks with Nice over the signing.

It comes after suggestions that the Hammers had a bid accepted for the 24-year-old (HITC, 17 July).

Lopetegui’s defensive priorities at West Ham

If there’s one thing that seems clear right now, it’s that new manager Julen Lopetegui is eager to fix their defensive woes. In addition to the signing of Max Kilman from Wolves, it seems as if the majority of transfer rumours involving the East London club have featured defenders.

The good news, though, is that while Todibo may not be convinced, there are plenty of other targets out there. Fikayo Tomori, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters are all names that have been mentioned in the past couple of weeks, and it’s not like they don’t have the money to make deals happen.

There are so many teams out there who are willing to sit and wait until there’s some clarity before making commitments in the transfer market. Alas, based on early evidence, it doesn’t seem as if Lopetegui falls into that category – which can only be a good thing.

In other West Ham news, a £11.6million bid update has emerged as the Hammers aim to beat Brighton to seal a new transfer.
