West Ham United offered chance to sign striker after January transfer news

West Ham have been offered the chance to sign former Chelsea striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, although Tottenham are now in pole position to sign him, according to HITC.

The news outlet reported on 6 January that West Ham are among several Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Fulham and Crystal Palace to have been offered a deal for the striker.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg shared on 6 January that Spurs are now on the verge of completing their deal for Werner on a six-month loan deal.

Definitely one to swerve

Despite it now looking inevitable that Werner will make the switch to North London rather than East, there won’t be too many West Ham fans who are frustrated about missing out on this one.

Usually, missing out on a deal for a player in a position you desperately need to one of your biggest rivals would be an infuriating process. However, Werner has scored just two goals in 14 games in all competitions so far this season.

There is a clear reason Leipzig are so keen to offload the striker, and while Ange Postecoglou may believe he can unlock what the German is missing, his proven track record of struggling in the Premier League, and now in Germany, means there are better options out there.

West Ham

Werner scored just ten goals in 56 Premier League games for Chelsea, and with the Hammers looking for a consistent source of goals, he is simply not the answer. They already have an abundance of strikers who can’t score goals, and Michail Antonio probably offers more to the team.
