West Ham United offered chance to sign Lille ace Jonathan David

West Ham United were offered a chance to sign Lille striker Jonathan David in the previous transfer window, according to GIVEMESPORT.

The news outlet reports [14 November] that the 24-year-old was expected to leave the Ligue 1 outfit in the summer, but the Hammers were one of the teams that turned out the opportunity to acquire the Canadian’s services.

Fulham have now joined the race for the 57-cap Canada international and are being informed about the terms required to bring David to the Premier League, with a pre-contract offer in January being contemplated.

West Ham United missed the mark with Jonathan David decision

While the reasons for West Ham opting against the Canada international’s signing aren’t clear, the club arguably missed their chance to get him.

Tim Steidten instead opted to get Niclas Fullkrug to the Hammers, and the move has backfired, with questions being raised about the technical director.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has been injured for most of the season and has rarely made an appearance under Julen Lopetegui.

With Michail Antonio the only other experienced centre-forward at the Spaniard’s disposal, the Irons knew going into the summer that the number nine position was an area of concern.

David has displayed his ability in France, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions in the current campaign.

West Ham’s decision to sign 31-year-old Fullkrug instead of the Canadian seems baffling, and it remains to be seen whether the club will reignite their interest in the 24-year-old and fix their mistake.
