West Ham United offer lucrative contract to Niclas Fullkrug as bid made

Niclas Fullkrug has been offered a “lucrative” three-year contract by West Ham as they close in on signing the striker, according to Patrick Berger.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter posted on X (1 August) to state that the Irons had tabled a three-year deal to the Germany international, with the option of a fourth beyond 2027 for the 31-year-old.

Fullkrug is reportedly open to making a move to the Premier League, albeit is yet to agree a deal with the Hammers, who have tabled a second bid of over £21million to Borussia Dortmund for his services [Florian Plettenberg, 1 August].

West Ham edging closer to sealing Niclas Fullkrug transfer

While Berger’s report doesn’t share exact details of the financial offer made to Fullkrug, a “lucrative” contract with security of potentially four years should be enough to secure his signature.

Signing a 31-year-old who has spent much of his career bouncing between the top two divisions in Germany doesn’t suggest a long-term fix, but he could be exactly what the Irons need this summer.

Tall, strong, and with a good eye for goal as shown in the EURO2024 group stages, Fullkrug leading the line for the new-look Hammers could give Julen Lopetegui the perfect attacking outlet.

With Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and possibly Crysencio Summerville playing behind him [Fabrizio Romano, 1 August], Fullkrug won’t be under much pressure to be the Irons’ top scorer, but is more than capable of doing just that.

The main question mark surrounding his potential contract is its length, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings also the wrong side of 30 and previous links to a striker 11 years Fullkrug’s junior in Jhon Duran.

However, Lopetegui believes that Fullkrug is the man to spearhead his side in the coming season, and if the aforementioned front four can fire the Irons back into Europe, absolutely no one will be complaining.

In other West Ham news, a transfer target for the Irons is reportedly keen on completing a move to the London Stadium.
