West Ham United now in direct contact with Sassuolo to close Gianluca Scamacca deal

West Ham United are looking to close a deal with Sassuolo for Italian international striker Gianluca Scamacca according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.

The Daily Mail revealed on Friday in their print edition (22 July, page 81) that the Hammers were set to table a new bid for the 23-year-old Italian hot-shot.

It appears that talks have progressed with Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Pedulla suggesting (via Twitter) on Friday 22 July that West Ham are in direct contact with Sassuolo to “close” the deal.

Pedulla has also suggested that an initial £30million will be paid with an additional £6.5million in add-ons.

What a signing

The signing of Scamacca would turn West Ham United’s good transfer window into a superb transfer window.

Scamacca is proven in one of Europe’s best leagues having scored 16 goals in the Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

He is a player that will suit David Moyes’ style of play and would be excellent competition for Michail Antonio up front.

Too often last year the Hammers needed to call upon another striking option but simply didn’t have a player capable of preoviding it.

If Moyes had another striker to call upon, there would’ve been every chance of the Hammers enjoying a more successful season.

The big question for West Ham fans is whether their move for Scamacca will impact their pursuit of Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The Irons are certainly showing ambition this summer and if they could land both strikers it would be a huge statement of intent from the club on their future ambitions.

It promises to be a hectic couple of weeks for the Hammers with some much-needed attacking additions coming through the front door at the London Stadium.
