West Ham United now in box seat to complete Kalvin Phillips transfer amid Newcastle United development

West Ham are now believed to be in the box seat to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Daily Mirror journalist tweeted on Friday (19 January) that Newcastle United have “failed to warm” to the potential numbers involved in a deal for the England international.

But he added that there could still be approaches from elsewhere for the 28-year-old despite the Hammers appearing to be the favourites in the race to secure a January deal for the midfielder.

Massive

This is a massive development in West Ham’s bid to try and bring in Phillips from Man City during the January transfer window.

Despite the midfielder being short of opportunities during his time at the Etihad Stadium, there is no doubt that he is a quality player and has plenty to offer.

He showed during his time with Leeds United and in his numerous outings with England that he can perform at the highest level as the Hammers look to add to their midfield this month.

West Ham

The Englishman wants to secure a move away from the Citizens to ensure that he is fit and firing once the European Championships come around in the summer.

Although there is some way to go before a deal is completed, we can start to get excited about the prospect of potentially having Phillips in our midfield for the rest of the season.

In other West Ham news, the club are eyeing a move for a player on £200,000 a week.
