West Ham are still working to sign a midfielder before the transfer window ends, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The journalist reported to Sky Sports on 14 August that the Hammers could still make more signings after a busy summer.

Julen Lopetegui could still be interested in bringing in another midfielder to the London Stadium.

Discussing potential further business, Sheth said: "West Ham have made eight signings in this window, and they may not be done yet.

"It’s understood they remain in the market for a midfielder if the deal is right. They made an ambitious attempt to sign N’Golo Kante last month."

West Ham still want another midfielder

Tim Steidten has already moved to bring in Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis but could be instructed to bring in one more before the window slams shut.

The Hammers do have strength in depth in that area but this interest could point towards Tomas Soucek being close to a move away potentially.

It would appear that a defensive-minded midfielder is what Lopetegui would prefer after links to Kante earlier in the window.

This would be a strange move given that Edson Alvarez and Rodriguez both want to operate in that deeper role.

The Irons have had a very positive summer and will want to continue that with any new signings that they opt to make moving forward.

It is clear that the new Hammers head coach didn't rate the defensive options that he inherited from David Moyes and has looked to improve those areas.

A new midfielder would certainly excite fans if they fit the same sort of profile that has been brought in so far.
