West Ham United: Big rebuild anticipated at London Stadium in summer transfer window

A “big rebuild” can be expected at West Ham in the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT broadcaster Tom Rennie.

The Irons crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday (18 April) with a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

With David Moyes’ contract up at the end of the season, and question marks over numerous players, it could be a period of plenty of changes.

“Don’t say be careful what you wish for. It’s not a wish,” Rennie posted on his personal X account [19 April]. “There is a big rebuild coming at West Ham.

“A new cycle with lots of ins and outs. And there is no manager contracted to next season. This is the time to think about what comes next. Pellegrini was FIVE years ago.”

Who will West Ham try to sign in summer transfer window?

The first priority for West Ham has to be the managerial situation. We know that Moyes was offered a new contract earlier in the year, yet he continues to hold off from making a decision.

Now that the European campaign is over, this is surely the time to make a decision one way or another? West Ham still have the Premier League to focus on, but it does not make sense to wait until mid-May to make a call.

Now should be the time that the club are putting the proverbial feelers out regarding the next managerial appointment.

That will also have a big say on the transfer business this summer. While Tim Steidten is in charge of that, the manager – whether it be Moyes or someone else – will also have some input.

It looks as though Lucas Paqueta will be on his way, which is obviously a blow, as well as a few deadwood players. As we saw with Declan Rice’s sale, though, that money could come in handy.

If United can sign a prolific centre-forward to partner Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, plus strengthen one or two other areas, there is no reason why a top-six challenge cannot be on the cards in 2024-25.
