West Ham United named by FIFA agent as Tottenham ruled out of Federico Chiesa transfer
Federico Chiesa could move from Juventus before the transfer deadline with West Ham one of the potential destinations, according to David Lavelle.
The FIFA and FA registered agent told Bianconera News on 6 August there is “definitely a chance” that the Italian international could head to the Premier League after speaking to Turin sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
But at €35million [£30.1m] he admits it will be “tough” and ruled Tottenham out at that price, while confirming the Hammers and Fulham had both made requests about wingers.
Lavelle said: “He is a very, very good player. There is definitely a chance. I spoke to Cristiano. I think he could find a chance at a couple of Premier League clubs and I can say that we have some requests for a left winger from Fulham, who would be willing to pay, and from West Ham.
“But it is tough. It will be very tough to convince him… I mean, who among the big clubs has 35 million in the Premier League to buy him? It will be tough to sell him. Tottenham could be an option for Chiesa, but they have quite a few players in that position. However, I doubt they will pay 35 million.”
Crysencio Summerville deal rules West Ham out for Juventus star
A week ago Chiesa might have been a very attractive target for the Irons with the 51-cap Italy international into the final year of his contract.
But Tim Steidten has landed Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United and had already brought in youngster Luis Guilherme so it seems likely that the wide attacking unit is now dealt with for the current window.
If Maxwel Cornet is sold that could feasibly change but the focus in the final weeks of the market are likely to be directed more to the defence where the exit of Nayef Aguerd could follow that of Kurt Zouma [The Times, 28 May] with the latter close to leaving for Shabab Al-Ahli [Santi Aouna, 6 August].
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is said to be Julen Lopetegui’s final request of the window from the club as the deal with Manchester United crawls along at a frustrating pace [The Sun, 5 August], but if the centre-backs both leave a replacement will be needed.
Were the Hammers to move for Chiesa it would suddenly give them an embarrassment of riches when prior to the summer the area was very short.
But at £30m he is surely too expensive after big spending on Summerville, Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug and Max Killman, unless Aguerd were able to bring in a substantial fee.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are eyeing a late move to sign a six-time league champion during the transfer window.
