West Ham United monitor Kieran Trippier amid Newcastle United exit news

West Ham United are monitoring the situation of Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier, according to The Telegraph.

Writing on their website [22 August], the outlet reported that the Hammers are one of the clubs keeping an eye on Trippier after informing Newcastle he wants to leave St James’ Park this summer.

Everton are currently in pole position for the 33-year-old [The Athletic, 22 August] and the Irons would face competition from their Premier League rivals as well as Atalanta and Galatasaray for his signature.

Will West Ham United sign Kieran Trippier?

Julen Lopetegui has a long-standing interest in Newcastle’s vice-captain [Fabrizio Romano] and was one of the main targets at right-back alongside Noussair Mazraoui and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Mazraoui rejected a move to East London in favour of Manchester United, paving the way for Wan-Bissaka to complete his move to West Ham and end his five-year stay at Old Trafford [Sky Sports].

The Hammers have had a busy summer as Tim Steidten and Lopetegui have put their stamp on the squad left by David Moyes, but amidst the excitement of the transfer window they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.

Lopetegui has brought in Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Wan-Bissaka to bolster his defence at the London Stadium. Kilman was the only new signing to start the match and struggled alongside his teammates as Villa dominated the match.

Trippier would provide a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience to the Hammers and would be another excellent coup, while providing competition to Wan-Bissaka at right-back and also cover at left-back when needed.

The England international would take some convincing. At 33, his priority will be regular minutes and a move to Everton would guarantee first-team football.

But if West Ham can pull this deal off, it would cap off what has been a fantastic summer transfer window.
