West Ham United medicals underway to sign Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay
West Ham are “closer than ever” to signing Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay from Manchester United with medical checks underway, according to Alan Nixon.
Writing on his Patreon account (4 August), The Sun journalist reports that the process to sign both players has begun with the pair undergoing “long distance medicals”.
Man United are said to not see West Ham as a rival and are willing to help get over some of the major financial issues, while McTominay has lost his place after the arrival of Mason Mount.

“West Ham have started the process of signing Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay by giving them long distance medicals,” he wrote.
“The pair are set to move to Hammers and their records have been sent between the clubs in the last 24 hours.
“Hammers will have to get the pair personally checked out but the fact they are accessing the information shows the double deal is closer than ever.
“United will sell England centre half Maguire and do not see West Ham as a rival so they will help to get over some of the major financial issues in the transfer.
“The two signings will be a triumph for boss David Moyes who wanted the pair above other targets suggested to him.”
Wow
Well, that escalated quickly.
West Ham have been struggling for transfer business all summer but the window seems to have finally burst into life with this double signing which has really come out of nowhere.
The Hammers had a £20m bid rejected for Maguire earlier in the summer and it wasn’t expected that they would return with a new one, while McTominay’s asking price was always deemed as too high.

However it seems that with the new season just a week away the club have pulled the trigger on two signings that Moyes was desperate for, killing two birds with one stone by negotiating with the same club for two deals at once.
There’s no mention of how much the deal will cost or when the deal will be completed, but medicals are usually towards the end of a deal so it’s fair to assume this could be done before the season starts.
It’s a huge boost for the manager and the club to get some business done, and fans can look forward to fresh faces in the squad that have plenty of top level experience.
