West Ham United medical completed as contract details emerge on successful Luis Guilherme deal

Luis Guilherme has passed his West Ham medical and will sign for the club on a five year deal with a further year’s option, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported via Twitter on 11 June that the Brazilian’s move was now a “here we go” after technical director Tim Steidten drove it to success.

Guilherme, 18, will become the first signing of the summer at the London Stadium, and the first new arrival on the Julen Lopetegui era when he puts pen to paper on Wednesday (12 June) to confirm his €30million move [£25.3m].

Romano wrote: “Luis Guilherme to West Ham, exclusive story confirmed and here we go! Medical completed today, contract to be signed on Wednesday.

“€23m fee plus €7m add-ons and 20% sell-on clause to Palmeiras, deal sealed by director Tim Steidten. Contract until June 2029 + option.”

Tim Steidten gets his man for West Ham

The medical was probably the final genuine threat to this deal being completed as unforeseen physical issues are far from unheard of.

Such a development seemed unlikely at this stage, especially for a player so young, but it looks like that hurdle has been cleared and the move, which twice looked like it might be about to fall through, is now as good as done.

The start to the summer will prevent some fans from celebrating until the club confirm it officially, but that is now imminent.

There will need to be a number of further additions to the Hammers squad this summer if the new manager is to improve on last season’s uneven final campaign under David Moyes.

Attacking recruits were an obvious requirement but a striker is still needed and an overhaul in defence appears to be in the offing as well, so while Steidten has had to put the hours in to get the Guilherme move to the finish line his work is far from finished.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have put another five-year contract on the table to secure a player Lopetegui wants in his squad.
