West Ham United: Mario Hermoso transfer on cards at London Stadium amid Inter Milan interest
West Ham could secure the signing of Mario Hermoso on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid ahead of Inter Milan by offering a higher wage, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The Italian news outlet reported on 31 March that the Hammers could guarantee a higher salary for the Spanish defender, but he could be tempted by the European pedigree of Inter.
It is also said that the Italian outfit feel they have the tools to beat Premier League competition to the player with a four-year deal and a salary of £4.2million plus bonuses.
Could West Ham sign Mario Hermoso this summer?
The option to bring any player in on a free transfer is always worth exploring, but the chance to sign a player with title-winning and Champions League experience under his belt does not come around too often.
This comes shortly after Frank McAvennie told West Ham Zone that signing a new centre-back should be the club’s priority in the summer transfer window in a damning verdict on Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos at the London Stadium.
In the wake of Mavropanos’ own goal against Burnley, McAvennie insisted he is not good enough to start every week, with constant mistakes being made which led the former Hammer to claim he is never confident they will keep a clean sheet.

Bringing in Hermoso from Atletico could help on that front, with his experience playing at the top level in Europe under Diego Simeone who is famed for his defensively structured teams in which Hermoso made himself a key player.
