West Ham United make transfer decision as Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo bids made

West Ham United have made a decision on their preferred target for central defence after making bids for Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, according to GiveMeSport.

Writing on their website (3 July), the news outlet report that the club have had a bid rejected for the Wolves captain and French international [Nice-Matin, 2 July], but the Hammers are considering making fresh bids in the coming days for both.

However with Nice demanding at least £40m to let Todibo leave this summer, West Ham have already decided that they would rather spend that amount on Kilman as they believe he is the better option in that price bracket and Julen Lopetegui wants to make him captain [GMS, 1 July].

West Ham choose Max Kilman over Jean-Clair Todibo?

The Hammers are desperate to strengthen their centre back options this summer with Angelo Ogbonna moving on at the end of his contract and question marks around the future of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd [Hakim Zhouri, 11 May].

But with a limited budget this summer and so many areas of the squad that need strengthening they simply have to be picky about what money they’re spending on targets.

Kilman and Todibo together would be fantastic options at the back, but together they would likely cost around £90million and that’s too much of an outlay this summer.

If that’s the case then Lopetegui’s preference needs to be the one prioritised, and it’s not surprise that Kilman is the chosen one considering they worked together previously at Wolves.

If one ends up becoming available for less money then they would likely become the more attainable and preferred target, but for now Kilman seems to be more likely to turn up at the London Stadium this summer.

In other West Ham news, the club have been offered a £150k p/w defender for a cut-price transfer.
