West Ham United make Tottenham approach for Giovani Lo Celso transfer

West Ham have asked about the signing of Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this week, according to Charlie Gordon.

The Daily Express journalist reported via his personal X account [29 August] that the Hammers are interested in signing the 28-year-old Argentine, though Real Betis are leading the race.

It is understood that the future of Lo Celso is set to run into the final day of the transfer window, with Aston Villa also keeping an eye on his situation.

West Ham United to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham?

Julen Lopetegui is keen on bringing one more midfielder into the squad before the transfer window slams shut at 11 pm on Friday 30 August.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Carlos Soler has been the most likely candidate so far, though it is understood that the Hammers need to sell before a new signing can arrive at the London Stadium [Florian Plettenberg].

Given Lo Celso’s lack of game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in recent seasons, it might be best for Lopetegui and Tim Steidten to track alternatives ahead of the deadline.

While he did make 22 Premier League appearances under Ange Postecoglou last term, only four of them were starts, having come back into the side after a season-long loan with Villarreal.

The 28-year-old is an extremely creative talent, one that has proven himself in England’s top division, but fans have not seen the same Lo Celso for multiple years, being sent out on loan instead.

Soler looks to be the much better option, and with Betis already leading the race for his signature, it seems like a silly decision for the club to turn their attention to a new target with a few hours of the window now remaining.
