Real Betis to anticipate West Ham United transfer hijack as Hammers make approach

Real Betis are anticipating West Ham United to hijack their move for Internacional defender Vitao, according to Superdeporte.

The Spanish daily reported in its print edition [7 June, page 12] that Betis are eager to sign Vitao but have not been able to reach an agreement.

It is claimed that the LaLiga side offered €6million (£5m), which is around €4m (£3.4m) below Internacional’s asking price.

As a result of that development, the Irons and another Spanish side in Villarreal are said to have now made an approach.

West Ham United summer transfer business latest

West Ham have so far been unsuccessful in terms of getting deals over the line, but Vitao certainly seems to tick a lot of boxes.

Given Betis are seemingly unwilling to match Internacional’s valuation – which is a reasonable amount – it is time for United to pounce.

If Vitao has been identified as someone who can bolster the Hammers’ squad, it makes total sense to offer what Internacional are looking for.

While a lot of the transfer developments coming out of London Stadium so far have a negative slant, the club deserve praise for being proactive.

Vitao report

It is worth remembering that the transfer window does not even technically open until next week, with the 2023-24 season only just concluding.

Hopefully one or two of these deals get concluded over the coming days before Tim Steidten jets back to the United Kingdom.
