West Ham United make new bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug
West Ham United have submitted an offer worth £21million for Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Thursday (1 August) that the German giants are yet to reject this proposal, which includes add-ons, but are instead looking for a fee of around £25.2million.
Should the Hammes decide that Dortmund’s demands are too high, they could still pull out of negotiations and instead look to strike an agreement and finalise a deal with Aston Villa for Jhon Duran.
Will Niclas Fullkrug exit Borrusia Dortmund amid West Ham United transfer speculation?
West Ham United haven’t been afraid to splash the cash this summer and for the sake of a few million pounds, you would imagine they would be willing to up their offer and match Dortmund’s asking price.
Yes, £25.2million is a lot of money for a 31-year-old striker. But this is a player who shone at the Euros this summer and isn’t particularly reliant on pace. Fullkrug could certainly still do an excellent job in the Premier League.
In comparison, a deal for Duran will still be a lot more expensive to get over the line. The Colombian forward may be younger, but he would represent a bigger risk than the German international.
Whatever West Ham decide to do, they have to make a decision sooner rather than later as the new Premier League season is fast approaching.
They cannot afford to go into the new campaign with just Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as their striking options.
Whether they pursue a deal for Duran or Fullkrug, they’re going to have to cough up a fee to get a new striker in sooner rather than later.
