West Ham United make new approach to sign Sorloth amid £32m transfer update

West Ham United have made fresh approaches to sign striker Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal, according to the MailOnline.

Simon Jones has reported [16 July] that the Irons have discussed the potential of a £25m for Sorloth, but Villarreal are standing firm and will only sell if the Norwegian’s £32m buyout clause is met.

Sorloth has had a brief spell in the Premier League with Crystal Palace but spent most of his two-and-a-half years at the club away on loan.

The 28-year-old hit 26 goals in 41 games for the La Liga outfit last season, attracting several suitors including from Saudi Arabia [Relevo, 16 July].

West Ham continue Sorloth search

Despite his previous spell in London not going precisely to plan, Sorloth is a proven striker with a ready-made age profile and West Ham could do a lot worse than paying his release clause.

The 6’5” centre-forward is a player who thrives in the right system, with the only real criticism from down the years of his career so far being his consistency – his goalscoring record at some of his previous clubs has been superb, whilst faltering elsewhere.

Hammers technical director Tim Steidten has signed forward Luis Guilherme already and is chasing more attacking recruits, including Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, who is set to leave the club.

Napoli’s Jesper Lindstrom is another on Steidten’s radar, with overhauls in both defence and attack meaning the squad Julen Lopetegui has to work with could begin to look almost unrecognisable within the next year or two to the pool David Moyes had at his disposal.

Sorloth, with 53 Norway caps and counting despite often competing for game time with Erling Haaland, could be back in the Premier League with a point to prove.

In other West Ham news, sources believe the agent of a Manchester United star is keen for his client to move to the London Stadium.
