West Ham United make new £9.2m bid for Hans Vanaken, response shared – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham have tabled a new bid worth £9.2m plus add-ons for Belgium international Hans Vanaken, but have been told it’s not enough by Club Brugge.

The Hammers want to add the 30-year-old attacking midfielder to their squad to improve their goal threat from midfield and provide competition to Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice and Flynn Downes in the heart of the team.

After having an initial bid “laughed off” last week, David Moyes’ side returned with a fresh bid today according to Fabrizio Romano but Brugge are unlikely to sanction a deal so close to the deadline for anywhere near the amount offered.

“West Ham have submitted a new bid for Hans Vanaken. €11m guaranteed fee plus add-ons, but it’s not enough to convince Brugge,” he said.

“It’s unlikely that Club Brugge will let their captain leave 9 days before end of transfer window for anywhere near that offer.”

Get it done

Vanaken has already made his wish to leave and join West Ham public knowledge, so the Hammers know all they need to do is get a bid accepted.

Yet despite that they continue to try and lowball a team who don’t need the money and don’t want to sell unless they receive an offer they simply can’t refuse, having already lost their best player to AC Milan earlier in the window.

West Ham

For some reason the club have decided that they don’t want to spend a lot of money on a player that is a key man at his current club and it simply isn’t enough to get a deal done.

Now they are risking not bringing the player in because the closer we get to the transfer deadline, it gives Brugge less time to bring in a replacement for a player who has scored double digit goals in each of the last 11 seasons of his career.

The Hammers need to find out the asking price and either decide to pay up or move on, because the squad needs bolstering and time is against us right now.
