West Ham United make Jaden Philogene top target as bid readied for Hull City livewire

West Ham United are planning to make a move for Hull City ace Jaden Philogene, according to TEAMtalk.

The online outlet reported on Thursday (20 June) that the Hammers have identified Philogene as a top attacking target.

Recently promoted Premier League side Southampton are also said to be interested in signing the England Under-21s international.

Championship side Hull, for their part, are said to be reluctant to lose Philogene but are bracing themselves for offers from the league above.

Who is Hull City ace Jaden Philogene?

Hull surprised many last summer when agreeing a deal with Aston Villa for Philogene, who was expected to be part of the Villans’ Premier League squad.

The youngster impressed on loan with Cardiff City the season prior and continued to light up the Championship last time out with the Tigers.

Indeed, Philogene was hailed as “ridiculous” by then-boss Liam Rosenior earlier this year in terms of his ability and potential.

Philogene scored 12 goals – including a Goal of the Season contender – and assisted six more in 32 Championship appearances in 2023-24.

Hull paid an initial £5million for the 22-year-old last year [Hull Live] and will therefore want substantially more than that if they are to sell.

Even at double that figure, it would still be good business from the Hammers’ perspective if Philogene’s spell in the second tier is anything to go by.

With Southampton also interested, it would be wise of the Irons to get that bid ready as soon as possible.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been given the chance to sign a prolific player from abroad for half the price.
