West Ham United make contact with Oumar Solet, Red Bull Salzburg exit now certain

West Ham United have made contact with Red Bull Salzburg to sign defender Oumar Solet this summer, according to Salzburger Nachrichten.

Writing on their website (13 July), the news outlet reports that the defender is “100 per cent certain” to leave the Austrian club this summer, with a move expected in the next weeks.

And the Hammers are one club to have made contact about a deal alongside Roma and Wolfsburg, as Julen Lopetegui looks to bolster the defence at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui has already moved to make his defence stronger, with Max Kilman replacing the veteran Angelo Ogbonna in the squad.

But there are still question marks about the future of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, and if one of those were to leave then there would be another gap in the squad to fill.

The 24-year-old has impressed during his time with the Red Bull club and it’s long been mooted that a move to a top European league would come sooner rather than later.

West Ham would provide a great opportunity for him to continue to develop as a defender while also competing for his spot in the team, with Kilman sure to be a starter and one of Zouma and Aguerd likely to be alongside him.

A fee of £8.4million has been mooted but is seen as too high currently, which means it would be a real bargain of a signing if done and fans should be excited at the new-look defence.

In other West Ham news, Dharmesh Sheth expects a move for a new striker to accelerate next week.
