West Ham United make contact with Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez

West Ham have enquired about the availability of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, although no concrete approach has been made yet, according to 1908.

The Dutch news outlet shared on 14 August that, having sold Gianluca Scamacca, and with Michail Antonio facing a possible departure, West Ham are exploring bringing in a younger striker to compete with Danny Ings.

The report states that the Hammers have spoken to Feyenoord as well as the player’s representatives as part of the extensive research put in place before deciding whether to make a definitive offer for the player.

An exciting option

Gimenez presents an exciting option to West Ham, at just 22 years old, and having scored 15 goals in the Eredivisie as he helped Feyenoord win the league title last time out.

His club are reluctant to let him leave, which could make the deal difficult, after general manager Dennis te Kloese revealed he expects the striker to stay in Rotterdam for the coming season, after extending his contract until 2027, with the opportunity to play and develop in the Champions League.

West Ham are keen on bringing in a striker this summer, particularly if Antonio does leave the club, as they would be left with Ings as their only option up front, and his injury record does not make for pretty reading when he would be relied on for 38 games.

Although a concrete offer is yet to be made, Gimenez seems to be one of the standout options for West Ham, representing a different style of striker and type of deal for the club.

They have previously been linked to Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun, who would cost huge money, and Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, who is five years older than Gimenez and struggles with injuries.

In other West Ham news, Harry Maguire has made a ‘massive’ demand to his club before joining the Hammers.
