West Ham United make contact to sign Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

West Ham United have “made a move” to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to Chronicle Live.

Writing on their website (24 June), the news outlet report that both the Hammers and Brentford made contact with the Toffees to sign the 27-year-old as he enters the final year of his contract.

Newcastle were said to be leading the race but have since pulled out of a deal due to Everton’s £37million asking price, leaving the door ajar for Julen Lopetegui to get his man.

The striker position at the London Stadium is one that is almost certain to see change this summer as Lopetegui looks to put his stamp on the squad.

Michail Antonio is wanted by clubs in the MLS and Saudi [Athletic, 15 May], and Danny Ings is a target for Southampton [talkSPORT, 28 May], leaving their futures at the club up in the air.

Several attackers have been linked with a move to east London too with the likes of Callum Wilson [Chronicle Live, 22 June], Jonathan David [iNews, 19 June] and Youssef En-Nesyri [Fichajes, 22 May].

Calvert-Lewin is a similar profile to those where his link-up play is very strong, he has good mobility and is a good finisher, but his record isn’t prolific and his injury record is worrying. However, Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan and that is reason enough to look at a deal.

If the club are really keen to bring him in they must negotiate down his asking price to make it less of a risk, but this is certainly a deal to keep an eye on.

In other West Ham news, the club are looking to hijack a PSG deal for one “unbelievable” attacker.
