West Ham United make contact for Arkadiusz Milik transfer as Juventus exit update emerges

West Ham United are among the Premier League clubs to make contact over the availability of Juventus forward Arkadiusz Milik, according to Tutto Sport.

The Italian outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (23 July) that the Hammers alongside both Everton and Brentford have entered the race to try and sign the Pollish international this summer.

New Juventus manager Thiago Motta doesn’t intend to use the 30-year-old forward having taken over in Turin while Milik has changed his agent and is now represented by British agency CAA Stellar.

Juventus are looking to earn a fee between £5million and £5.8million for the striker’s signature this summer and there is a belief that the Irons and Brentford could act on their initial interest sooner rather than later.

Are West Ham United close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

West Ham and Julen Lopetegui are in the market for a new number nine this summer and while they appear to be eager to do whatever they can to secure a centre-forward, this deal seems like it would be a bit of a surprise.

Milik has impressed in the past with Napoli and Marseille, but has been unable to hold down a consistent starting place at Juventus over the last couple of seasons and only managed to score four league goals last term.

He doesn’t have that clinical edge that would make him a clear upgrade on Michail Antonio or Danny Ings. If the Hammers spend money on a new centre-forward, they will want him to be better than what they already have.

Perhaps the Polish forward’s low asking price could tempt the Irons and their Premier League rivals into submitting an offer for his signature, but he would have to be one of two strikers signed ahead of the new season.

It will be interesting to see whether or not West Ham, Everton or Brentford transform their initial interest into a genuine offer in the coming days.
