West Ham United make bid to sign Brazilian wonder Wesley, decision made already

West Ham have seen a £12.8million bid to sign Corinthians striker Wesley rejected by the Brazilian club, although more bids are expected to arrive, according to Jorge Nicola.

The Portuguese journalist described Wesley as “nothing more” than a promising player as things stand but explained that the Hammers are expected to make new offers in the summer.

It was also said that an Irons’ representative has been to Brazil, during which he watched the forward play three games, and was the catalyst which tempted them to make the offer.

As Nicola shared via his YouTube channel [24 April]: “Corinthians refused £12.8million for striker Wesley who, until now, is nothing more than a promise. The expectation is that more proposals may appear in the middle of the year.

“West Ham even sent a representative to Brazil, he watched the Corinthians striker’s three matches before he made this proposal.”

Wesley, aged just 19, has only featured eight times for the senior team this season, scoring just once, adding value to Nicola’s claims that he is nothing more than a promising player as things stand.

This has come amid links with several strikers as the Hammers look to strengthen their front line, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings failing to impress enough to dispel concerns about the attacking options.

The deal would see Tim Steidten continue his plans to recruit younger players from abroad with the ambition to develop them in East London before either integrating them into the first team or selling them for a large profit.

In an era where Premier League clubs seem to be constantly at risk of financial fair play issues, the ability to buy players for low prices and sell them on for a profit can be vital to securing the future of the club financially.

In other West Ham news, talks with a potential new manager have been ongoing for “months”.
