West Ham United make approach to sign Wesley in new Liverpool update

West Ham have made an early approach to sign 19-year-old winger Wesley Gassova from Brazilian side Corinthians, according to Nizaar Kinsella.

The Evening Standard journalist shares that West Ham have “started negotiations” with the youngster before the summer transfer window begins, in order to beat several other top clubs to the £26million-rated player.

The Hammers are tussling with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis for Wesley’s signature, with his signing a complicated one due to Corinthians only owning 70% of the player’s rights and his own representatives holding the other 30%.

The Hammers bringing Wesley to the club could be the first piece in a brand-new jigsaw as Julen Lopetegui looks to put his stamp on things at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard has reportedly agreed a deal to succeed David Moyes as the club’s manager, and bringing in a highly-rated winger like Wesley would certainly show Hammers fans that he is keen to play attacking football.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus have been mainstays on the flanks under Moyes, scoring a bucket-load of goals in the process, but adding the 19-year-old Brazilian to those stocks adds a new dimension to the Irons’ attack.

With Lucas Paqueta rumoured to be on the way out of East London, bringing in his compatriot could even facilitate a more central move for Bowen or Kudus, and with other wide options and a centre-forward also linked, this summer is shaping up to be one of exciting change as the club enter a new era.
