West Ham United make approach to sign ‘supersonic’ Mohamed Amoura amid £17.2m transfer news
West Ham United have made an approach to sign forward Mohamed Amoura from Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise, according to L’Equipe.
The report on Thursday (9 May) reveals that the striker the paper describes as “supersonic” – who is valued at around £17.2million – has attracted interest from several clubs in Ligue 1, the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
However, Brighton’s links with the Belgian side put them in pole position, given they have a “priority option” for the player.
What would West Ham United be getting if they signed Mohamed Amoura?
Amoura, 24, has enjoyed a sensational season in Belgium with Union Saint-Gilloise, scoring 22 goals and registering six assists in 2,851 minutes across all competitions [Transfermarkt].
The Algerian centre-forward joined from Swiss side Lugano last summer for a paltry £2.5m and has taken the Jupiler Pro League by storm, with 18 of his 22 goals coming in league competition.
Amoura is a mobile striker who carries the ball well and gets himself into good positions using his pace and sharp movement, drifting wide to support fellow forwards as well as crashing the box.
West Ham have been crying out for a new centre-forward for some time – veteran Michail Antonio is still the Hammers first choice striker at the age of 34 and Jarrod Bowen has been forced to fill in up front when the Jamaica international has been absent.

If the Hammers can get ahead of the significant collection of clubs interested in Amoura, they will be acquiring a rough diamond in red-hot form.
In other West Ham news, Lopetegui has made an approach to complete two new signings already.
