West Ham United make approach to sign Archie Brown as Aston Villa update emerges
West Ham have made recent enquiries into Archie Brown, with Gent setting a £17million price tag, according to The Mirror.
The newspaper reported via its website [28 May] that the Hammers have re-entered the race for the talented full-back, having been linked with the 22-year-old in previous windows.
It is understood that both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have made enquiries into the player’s situation, with Lyon also interested in the English left-back.
West Ham United to target Archie Brown as Julen Lopetegui era begins
Brown is an extremely exciting talent, and one of the most sought-after full-backs outside of Europe’s top five leagues, having impressed in Belgium.
The 22-year-old began his career at Derby County, with many of the Rams fans now regretting his Pride Park exit in 2021 when he joined Lausanne on a free transfer.
He has only gone from strength to strength, especially after arriving at Gent, seeing the likes of Chelsea and Everton also registering their interest in recent seasons.
While Emerson Palmieri is the first-choice left-back at the London Stadium, and Aaron Cresswell has signed a new contract extension, there is no reason why Brown cannot compete for a starting spot.
The full-back is also capable of deputising at centre-back, as well as further up the pitch on the left flank, which could make him an ideal addition for the Hammers this summer.

Brown will be keen to add to his four assists this season, with the player enjoying a venture forward, much like Emerson does for the Irons. With Europa Conference League experience this season, he could be the perfect fit.
Considering that Cresswell only has one more season at the London Stadium, it makes sense to bring in a new youngster who can take his spot in the squad once he exits.
